Teacher using an iPad

This Beta introduces several key enhancements to improve accessibility, flexibility, and session management. This update includes Arabic language support, a SMART-branded iPad app, and the ability to control a session from an iPad, giving educators more mobility and control. Additionally, improvements to Miracast and Chromecast messaging, device management integration, and file access on Android receivers enhance usability across devices. These updates ensure a more seamless and adaptable experience for all users.

What’s new

Arabic Language Support

Users can now change the application language to Arabic across the app, web client, and receiver. This update ensures a fully localised experience, making SMART Mirror more inclusive and accessible for Arabic-speaking users.

SMART iPad application

Previously, iPad users could only share their display using AirPlay. Now, SMART Mirror users can download a SMART-branded iPad application that replicates the desktop app experience (without touchback functionality). Key capabilities include:

  • Joining unlimited connection sessions, which disable AirPlay but now allow iPad users to participate seamlessly.

  • Connecting to live broadcasts when joining a session.

  • Sharing items directly through the iPad app. This addition provides iPad users with a richer, more versatile experience, enhancing their ability to engage in sessions.

Control a session on an iPad

Teachers can now control a session directly from an iPad, allowing them to move around the room while maintaining full control. This update enables teachers to invite users to share, stop sharing when needed, and even remotely control the main display, providing greater flexibility and ease of use during sessions.

Miracast and Chromecast Messaging Update

SMART Mirror now uses the room name instead of the session ID for Miracast and Chromecast connections. To help users easily identify the correct display, an alert will appear on the home screen if the receiver is using a default room name (e.g., SMART Board MX Series (V5)). This alert includes a “Learn More” button with guidance on setting a unique name for better discoverability. Users can choose to keep the default name if preferred, ensuring flexibility for IT-managed environments.

Device Management Ready

The SMART Mirror application now supports integration with remote device management systems, such as Radix, enabling IT administrators to remotely access, configure, and monitor receiver settings across managed devices. This capability streamlines large-scale deployments, simplifies updates, and enhances troubleshooting efficiency for enterprise and education environments.

Enhanced grid control

Teachers and moderators can now manage the grid view more effectively by making users full-screen or minimizing them directly from their own device. This new feature eliminates the need to approach the main display, offering greater convenience and flexibility during sessions.

Native File Browser Support for Android Receiver

The Android receiver now supports access to the native file browser, if one is available on the device. This enhancement provides a more streamlined and familiar experience for file selection. If a native file browser is not present, the receiver will seamlessly revert to the existing process.
