This beta brings significant improvements and exciting new features designed to enhance the performance, usability, and overall experience. Our focus in this release has been to introduce the brand new Connect as a teacher feature using your SMART account giving teachers in the room full control of the session from their device! We have also made efforts to streamline connectivity, improve casting quality, and ensure seamless integration with SMART technologies.
What’s new
Introducing Connect as a Teacher
we’re introducing Connect as a Teacher to empower educators with full control over their sessions. This highly anticipated feature now allows teachers to control who can share their screen during a session all from their own client device, ensuring that no one can present without their invitation. With this level of control, lessons will run smoothly without unwanted interruptions, allowing teachers to share content effortlessly.
But that’s not all—Connect as a Teacher also works seamlessly with Unlimited Connections. Teachers can now invite their entire class into a session, providing a more collaborative and inclusive environment for learning. We’re thrilled to deliver a solution that makes classroom management more intuitive and efficient ensuring teachers always feel in control.
How to connect as a teacher?
We want to ensure that teachers are the only ones who can control the session therefore we require that they sign in using their SMART account before connecting to the session. Once this is done, they are good to go!
More flexibility with Remote Control
We’re giving users more control by allowing them to navigate the screen sharing session from their device and control the entire display, including access to the system, other apps, and tools. This gives presenters the confidence to control a session and the freedom to do so from anywhere in the room.
Control securely
To ensure only educators and presenters can control the display, Remote Control can only be accessed if a user has joined the session through 'Connect as a Teacher.' This security measure allows presenters to lead the session securely from their own device.
SMART Pen support
We have now added support for SMART pens to now work with SMART Mirror. This means that when the pen is used on the whiteboard or over a shared screen, it will annotate however if a finger is used it will switch to the cursor tool. When using the side of your fist on an annotation, the eraser will be used.
Share a window with audio
We’re delighted to announce audio will now be shared when sharing an individual window when using SMART Mirror Windows and MacOS desktop apps. Now, no matter what option users choose to share multimedia, the audio will work as expected.
Updates to how casting methods work
We have updated how our GoogleCast and Miracast services work to create a consistent user experience. Now these casting methods will connect to a session through the device’s room name in the same way that AirPlay already does. Users will no longer be required to start a new session when enabling or disabling a casting service.
IR remote control support
We’re adding support for remote controls in SMART Mirror, designed with non-touch Android devices in mind. This update allows users to navigate the app using remote control inputs instead of a mouse.
